I have recently and inadvertently become hooked on the TV show "Pushing Daisies." I had not heard much about it outside of "It's good" and "It has Kristin Chenoweth." (I also happily discovered it has the woman who played Hermia in the recent "Midsummer Night's Dream" with Kevin Kline and the man who played Vogler on "House." The man who played Peewee Herman also has a recurring role as a smell expert. ^^;) I decided to watch it on a whim while I sewed as none of my other DVDs were calling to me. It is hilarious, wonderfully filmed (compared often to Tim Burton's style), and thought provoking.
The plot centers around a pie maker, Ned, who has the ability to bring dead people back to life for one minute by touching them, after which someone else must die in the original person's place if he has not touched them a second time (which permanently kills them). He has taken advantage of this gift by helping out a private investigator with unsolved murder cases. All goes well, or at least decently, until he brings to life his childhood sweetheart, Chuck (Charlotte)...then doesn't re-dead her. Hi-jinks ensue. My personal favorite parts (outside Kristin Chenoweth) are those involving Ned's un-dead and very smart dog as well as Chuck's aunts.
I watched as much of the series as I could until I got to episode 9 and found that, due to the writer's strike, there was no more until next year.
I decided to look it up, and found out that it was created by the same man who made "Dead Like Me." No wonder I'm so amused.
PS: Pictures of sewing later. I'm still wrestling with boot covers and a migraine (not a good combination...I may settle for just wrestling with the migraine and going to sleep).
PPS: Our doorknob broke. We cannot leave our apartment unless we jump out a window.
PPPS: A plumber came by, since the locksmith went home to Worcester 2 hours ago, and jimmied the door open. We now have taped and sealed the door so that it can still lock via deadbolt, but we can get out in the morning. Go us.
